( Here's hoping Arthur's not the fretting sort, because if he is it's not going to go well for him. Any reply will be lost to the void of broken cell phones. Apparently, iPhones can do many things but they tend to get a little damaged when thrown at someone's head. So it's many, many days of silence before another message appears.
It's from a different number. It's a picture.
It's Eames in some bright touristy little town, some famous building or other in the background. He's smiling, and his large sunglasses and baseball cap almost hide the bruises. Wouldn't want to scare anyone now, would he? He's also clearly gotten someone else to take it for him. Freeing up his hands so he can flip Arthur off with each.
[ Arthur does try to send another message, one that reads I'd say that'll be you, but with one less hand, I'm not sure.
Except it never goes through. A failed message auto-sends to his text inbox and he frowns at it for a few moments. Out of habit, he sends another, this time with less humor and more respond, but that also bounces. For about thirty minutes, he lays in bed, staring at the ceiling and phone set on his chest.
Then he falls asleep.
Several days pass without hide nor hair from Eames and while he's not worried, he's... well, he's worried. It's his constant state of being.
He'll never mention how relieved he feels when he finally gets a picture text of Eames himself, from a different number. In fact, he grins at the ridiculous picture. ]
( Eames already knows these things, but acting like he hasn't got a head on his shoulders always reassures him that Arthur cares, deep deep down inside. He wouldn't track these kind of things if he didn't. )
( It's far too tempting. Eames has always liked having the opportunity to needle Arthur. That's why he works with him so often ( that and he's one of the best, that and he knows that with Arthur running point the likelihood of getting blown to smithereens is fairly low ). But being allowed to do so when not on the job?
[ Normally, Arthur keeps work and personal life separated. The last time he'd mixed those two, he ended up getting close to Mal and by extension Dom. That. Well. It hadn't worked out so well in some ways.
Still, he's extending the invitation to Eames, in a way. Not directly, but just in case the forger decides he'll take him up on it.
He doesn't know what it says about it him that he's glad when Eames agrees. ]
By all means, regale me with your achievements as of late.
I know a place. Small, not too noisy. The bartender is quite possibly the best in Manhattan.
